Hooray Christmas... I guess.

Christmas shopping - check!
House cleaned and spotless - check!
Grocery shopping - check! - well, mostly check on that one, I have to stop at Walmart on my way home from work today for one thing. Jeeeez that place is gonna be a zoo.

I work today, work tomorrow, have to deal with Ginger tomorrow night, have the entire family coming over for Christmas day, and then work again on Saturday morning at 7:45. Who the hell gets their hair cut at 8am on the Saturday morning after Christmas?! I dunno. I'm glad the family is coming here for Christmas, but at the same time it's depressing. I miss my grandma. I miss her house and I miss the smells and I miss Christmas morning and keeping all the kids in the kitchen so the grownups could make sure all the presents were arranged just right. But mostly I miss her. Too much, sometimes. I just wish I could feel better about that, move on. I don't want to forget her, no, but I wish it was easier :(

My new years plans have also changed this year. Since John got home, his house was usually the plan so we could burn Christmas trees in the backyard, but he and Lisa went off to Michigan for the holidays :( So, we're having new years at my house, way out here in the boonies. No burning trees, but it should be a good time nonetheless. We'll see, I guess.

Things have been.... hm... interesting to say the very least in my little world. Drama piled on top of work piled on top of all kinds of other good stuff, and it bottles up until I feel like I'm going to explode! But what can ya do?

The rain and cold last night made my shoulder ache. I wonder if I have time to eat something before work so I can take some naproxen? Hm. I'll work something out I imagine. Well, I'm headed back into my little cave now! Nice seeing you all again, and I'll be back around to update sooner or later.

So far my brother is doing well. He didn't break anything (thank goodness!). His right leg is VERY swollen, his left leg needed stitches. He's beat up and bruised, but he'll be ok. We're getting in touch with a lawyer right now because the driver of the pickup truck ran a stop sign and didn't yield to traffic. My brother had his helmet on, smart boy, and had his headlight on. He was also in the bike lane. Thanks for all the well wishes :)

I leave for vacation tomorrow night and I couldn't be more excited. This is the first time we've had such a large group (15 of us!!) and the first time kids have been allowed on what started out as the grownup trip. 4 of the 5 kids haven't ever been to Disneyland, so we're gonna have a great time. Thursday morning we have our character breakfast, and Friday afternoon we're doing the princess lunch at Ariel's Grotto for the girls. It's so much easier than chasing princesses around all day. I need to do laundry and clean house today, and also start packing. I have work this morning from open-3, and I work the long shift tomorrow (10-6), so I need to get this stuff taken care of! Maybe I'll make a packing list if it's dead today. Or while I get my hair fixed. We'll see.

I'll update from Disney, if I find the time :) Hope you all have a fantastic week and weekend!

With no Ginger to fight with all the time life is pretty boring. Not that I'm complaining in the least, because I LOVE my house. A lot. And I can't really miss her because she never goes away. She still calls every day and buys me groceries I don't need. Some things never change I guess.

I'm also really bored because I have nothing interesting to do. High school was cheer and track and yearbook. Right after that was Rocky Horror. After I quit RHPS I went right into derby. Now that derby is over I'm realizing that I'm actually pretty boring. I need something fun and interesting to do. I'd join up with Black Cherry Burlesque if I had the money for the costumes, the time for rehearsals, or the self confidence to be that naked. I'd do more fire stuff with Flam Chen or Elemental Artistry, but I don't even know where to begin. And I don't really want to say I'll definitely join any kind of group because my work schedule is so sporadic I can't promise to be available and can't stand the thought of letting people down. So, I go to work and come home and watch Jay play SoCom and that's about it. Is this really what I've become? Blehh

My baby sister got married in my backyard two weeks ago.
So my friend Kate and her husband watched Twilight the other night for the first time and were both as equally (if not more) disgusted than I was with the whole Twilight fanaticism. Her LJ post about the movie turned into a comment fest about how much it sucked (both the written version and the screen version) and I mentioned that I like True Blood and Sookie Stackhouse novels. So, Kate linked me to this fantastically hilarious True Blood/Twilight crossover, and I think you all should read it as well.

http://stoney321.livejournal.com/377337.html

I would love to see more of this.

So in all the hustle and bustle of the past week, I completely forgot to post that we are officially in our new house! We moved in last Thursday, the 25th, and have been unpacking and buying and putting together and setting up and moving around ever since. I'm glad that it came so close to a holiday, because most people (even if they usually work on Saturdays) get the 4th of July off, so I could plan a housewarming party for the 3rd and have people actually show up. It was nice. My boss and my coworker came, my family came, a couple derby friends.... it was a good time. Burgers and brats and boca burgers on the grill (which is an awesome grill btw), and booze, and lots of dessert. The rain turned on and off all night, but never enough to ruin anything. At about 11pm or so all the electricity went out from the storm, but by that point it was just my Veronica, Buck, their kids, Ron, Ali and Jay and I. Tatum had gone to sleep already so she missed the whole thing. We sat around using my phone for internet, looking for houses to rent when we go to Disneyland later this year. Woot.

Anyway.... I'm in. All is well. I'm free from Ginger, which is the best feeling ever. I could be living in the crappiest little hovel on earth, but being away from her would make it worth my while. Thankfully, I'm not in a crappy hovel and I have a great house that I love. Pictures if I ever get around to taking them :)

Last night was my last game, and damn!! It was a nail biter to the end. We were behind the majority of the game, and tied the score with about 5 minutes left. In the last two jams we managed to come back and win! It was a lot more exciting in person, so you really had to be there. Final score, VICE 107 - Queens 94. I cried and took pictures and signed autographs and hugged my trophy and hugged my team... It was just amazing. I'm so lucky to have had such a great experience. And I retired on a high note!

Another thing that's all over? My favorite TV show, Pushing Daisies. Season two had three episodes left when they stopped airing it, and they FINALLY showed the last three episodes. Of course I didn't know about this all beforehand, so I'm currently watching them on the net, but so far so good. I just finished the second, and the series finale is next. I love this show, and I'm really disappointed that they cancelled it. The full season comes out on DVD in late July, so I'll probably buy it to go with my first season.

Oooooh True Blood starts again tonight! And I don't have to miss it because of scrimmage or practice or eligibility!! Good times indeed. Now, back to my season finale and then some more packing.

It was so good, and I cried like an idiot at least 4 times. Tatum kept looking over and asking why I was crying and hugging me. It was sweet. But yea... wow. I wish I could have seen that movie with my mom because then we could cry together :) I hope she sees it.

I'm on day 7 of 10 at work today. And I'm tired. I bought Tatum her very own Zune last night. She's so excited. She wanted to load it all last night but by the time we got the software installed she was half asleep, and then the Zune marketplace was all down for maintenence. So we'll do it this morning before I go to work.

Speaking of, I should get in the shower and start getting ready. Lame. My last derby game EVER is this weekend, and I can't decide how I feel about it. So far we've got the couch, rugs, chair, tv stand, and pillows for the living room. Still need curtains and a sofa table. We found bar stools yesterday for the dining room/kitchen, and we know what end tables we are going to try to get. We have our new bedroom set and linens. We have tatums bed and linens. We need towels and accessories for all three bathrooms. We need to decide how to decorate the guest edroon. We have a table for the game room. We are so close to being there and not close enough.

Work is good. I'm trying to decide if I am going to go back to school or not. I would like to, but I worry. Ohhhkay.

The house is going fantasticly. We have insulation in the walls, we have drywall on the top floor walls, and will probably have the bottom floor finished tomorrow. Next week will either be blowing the insulation into the ceiling, patching and finishing the interior walls, or starting the stucco. Who knows! It's fun to watch all the pieces come together. We have a closing date of june 25th, so I have eight weeks to pack and get the heck out :)

Spotlight is a week from tomorrow, so if you wanna see me ballroom dance let me know and I'll get you the info.

Posted via LiveJournal.app.

And all of my LJ buddies, how I've missed you! Wow, cheesy. Ok no more of that.

A LOT has happened since I last posted, and I could have sworn I'd posted more info here but apparently not. The house I was in love with? I didn't get it. We bought a house out in Vali, at Rancho Del Lago. The outside looks like this, and the floor plan looks like this. I'm very very happy with it. Lots more room than the other house I was looking at, larger backyard, better neighborhood. Even though it's in Vail it's only about 10 minutes away from where I live now, so the commute isn't bad, and even though I really like Tatum's school, we're going to move her into the Vail district. I've heard nothing but good things about it, and both my bosses daughters go to the school that Tatum will be going to. It will be about 4-5 months til we can move in, because they are building it from the ground up, but it's so exciting!! This week they laid the foundation, so in the next week or so the walls will be going up. We drive up every day or two and check up on it to see the progress, it's so much fun to see it all coming together! I'm super anxious and ready to be moved in. We bought our first piece of new house furniture, too, and decided the colors we're going to decorate the living room in. Our couch, the Allegra also came with this HUGE round comfy chair that I'm going to use for reading among other things :) So that's that! I'm such a grownup now.

VICE had their first full length game of the season earlier this month against the FTW. As I've posted numerous times in the past, the Waitresses are our arch rivals and bitter enemies. Both the teams have lost and added people, had girls retire, had girls switch teams, etc. FTW has a lot more rookies than it ever has in the past, and while VICE lost Helen Wheels, we gained Deadlock Doe (formerly of the FTW). Our game went well, to say the very least, and we walked away with a victory a 152 point victory at that . The Waitresses didn't give up though, and I can't wait until they reach their full potential. Also, before the game began, we all got some bad news. Our EMT, Joe "Bones" Luglio, had passed away in his sleep only hours before the game. I was completely heartbroken. Bones was there when I broke my face and hurt my shoulder, he was always around to laugh at my big ass bruise, and you always felt safe at games and scrimmages knowing he was there to take care of you. http://www.derbynewsnetwork.com/blog/hurt_reynolds/2009/03/remembering_joe_bones

Work has been work. Making money, spending it on bills and house shit. I also got a new phone, so now I'm a corporate iPhone whore. It's ridiculous, really.

Dance is going well, we've got Spotlight on May 8th and this time we're definitely gonna do it. We had our test the other night from beginning bronze into intermediate bronze, and our tester was the owner of the studio. We passed with flying colors, and Bob was super nice. He complimented our waltz and said he could watch it all day because we moved so well together. It makes me feel pretty :)

I think that's it, at least for now. Damn long blog posts. Is anyone else on Twitter? Add me!! My user name is CarrieGunns. I'm not a huge Tweeter? Is that the right word? But yea, I post. And now with my new phone Im sure I will post more often.

This past week I worked 7 days straight, Saturday through Friday. But that meant I got this entire weekend off, which is definitely what I needed. Saturday morning Jay and I went out on a serious house hunt. As much as I would like to own an older house (more character, more chances to do my own thing with the house, no cookie cutters) we knew we'd be able to get a better deal on a brand new house considering the market. Builders want to sell, badly, so they are willing to give lots of incentives. So first we drove out to the Vail/Sahuarita area. One of Jay's co-workers lives out in Sahuarita and got a pretty good deal on a house, and it's close to where Jason works. It's pretty far from my work and Tatum's school, and once we got out there we realized just how far it would be from everyone we know, so we drove back into town. There is a new community up the street from where we live now that we've been sort of looking at, but this time we decided to get some more information.

I am in LOVE. We had been looking at a certain floor plan online, but once we got there we found out that there is a new floor plan within our price range that they just started working on two weeks ago. The model isn't even complete (it's up with walls and everything, but no tile or fixtures or cabinets), but we were able to look at it anyway. It's perfect. Everything we wanted and more. It's 1819 sq ft, two story. The lower level has a den, great room, nice sized kitchen, and tons of storage. The upper floor has two bathrooms, laundry room, four bedrooms and an open loft. There is enough backyard for our dogs to be able to go outside and run, and we'll take them to obedience, training so that they can come inside as well (I hope). The original price was 222k, but they took off 15k as an original incentive, and another 20k off of that as an additional incentive. So, we'd be getting it for about 189. We're getting more information now about the down, starting an FHA loan process... The community won't even be ready until August, but OMG. If I know we're getting it, I can definitely hold off on killing Ginger. It's the size we want, the price we want, the location we want... sheesh. I almost cried. We need to get the earnest money ASAP so we can put in for our loan.

After that little bit of sunshine in my day, I came home and got my stuff together for our first game of the season. This "game" was really three games, because instead of doing a normal 2 30-minute periods between 2 teams, each of our four teams played every other team in 15 minute mini round robin games. It was somewhat of a cluster fuck, but it was fun. Our first game was against the Furious Truckstop Waitresses, who have been our arch rivals since season 2. They have beaten us twice for the championship, and we've beaten them twice as well. After fifteen minutes, the final score was VICE 42 - FTW 4. Sweet!!! Our next game was against the Copper Queens, who have always been a very good, fast, hard hitting team. They beat us once last season, and we beat them once. Final score? VICE 28 - Queens 17. Finally, we played against the Iron Curtain. This team has changed SO MUCH since last season. They picked up three awesome skaters, Luc3f3r, PunchKisser, and Helen Wheels (who was on my team last season), and have really upped their game. We didn't know how this game would go because they have so many new things going on. It was probably the hardest, craziest game of the night. Final score, however, was VICE 29 - IC 23. I can't wait to play these girls in a full game! 15 minutes wasn't nearly enough for either team to pull out all the stops. It was nice to win all three games and prove to everyone why we are the reigning champs :)

It was super nice to have today off to recover. I'm tired, I'm sore, and tomorrow I get to go back to work. Hopefully not for another 7 days straight :) Hope everyone else had as fantastic a weekend as I did, and wish us luck on the house front!!

Although I'm sure the FCC is going to fine the HELL out of Comcast for allowing it to happen. They got millions for a split second of Janet's pierced boobie.
